Katy Uyeno
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Katy Uyeno (she/her) is an accomplished dance educator and performing arts specialist with over 20 years of experience. She began her journey with 12 years of formal dance training at the Juline School of Dance and Central West Ballet and has since taught dance for two decades, inspiring and guiding numerous students. Her extensive performing background includes singing, dancing, and acting in over 30 theatrical productions, as well as directing, choreographing, and stage managing.
In addition to her arts expertise, Katy holds a Master’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis from Arizona State University. With 8 years of experience as a credentialed Education Specialist, she combines her passions by developing inclusive arts programs that address diverse learning needs. -
G.B. Blackmon III
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
G.B. Blackmon III (he/him) is a seasoned theater professional with over 30 productions to his credit, both on and off the stage. He began teaching at the age of 18 and has more than 13 years of experience working in the arts community of Merced. G.B. holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts with a concentration in Acting from Stanislaus California State University. He is passionate about bringing new works to Merced that reflect and uplift the voices of underserved and overlooked members of the community. G.B.'s dedication to the arts is evident in his commitment to fostering creativity and supporting diverse artistic expressions.

Elizabeth "Bethy" Harmelin
EDUCATION DIRECTOR
Elizabeth "Bethy" Harmelin (she/her) is a veteran of the theater community in Merced. She has performed in Merced since 2008 and is excited to encourage the love of the arts in the next generation. She received her Bachelor of Music from UC Santa Barbara in 2005 and a teaching credential from Stanislaus State in 2008. She believes that theater is not just putting on a show; it is fostering creativity, dialogue, empathy, and friendship. It builds connections and confidence and is an avenue that can involve people from all walks of life.

Sara Parsons
RESIDENT MUSIC DIRECTOR
Sara Parsons (they/any) studied music composition and vocal performance at Humboldt State University, performing in musical theatre, opera workshops, and as alto section leader with their jazz ensemble. Since achieving their BA in 2011, Sara has continued to develop their musicianship through songwriting and open mic nights, singing with community choirs, and performing with local theater groups. Sara is currently pursuing a certification in music therapy, and looks forward to bringing their years of experience and education in music and performance into the music director seat for Accessible Arts Merced this season!

Abbie Roe
EDUCATION PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR
Abbie Roe (she/her) is a dedicated special education teacher with a wealth of experience working with students ranging from ages 3 to 22. She has a deep passion for making the performing arts accessible to individuals of all abilities, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to express themselves creatively. Abbie has directed and choreographed numerous performances for the Merced County Office of Education's adult transition special education program, bringing her vision of inclusive arts to life. With a strong background in musical theater, Abbie has been actively involved in a variety of productions with Playhouse Merced, Phoenix Creative Collective, and Merced College. Her work in these organizations reflects her commitment to fostering creativity and inclusion within the community.
